Wendy Burden is an artist and a writer.

She is the author of Dead End Gene Pool, a memoir published in 2010, which was an Indie bestseller. She was born in Santa Monica, California, and raised in Washington DC, London, and New York.

She attended Fleming College in Florence, Italy, and then Cornell University, before graduating from Parsons School of Design with a BFA. Wendy worked in New York at National Lampoon magazine, and then as a freelance illustrator. Her work appeared in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, and many magazines. In 1985 she attended La Varenne École de Cuisine in Paris, and went on to become chef-owner of Chez Wendy, a seasonal French bistro in Seal Harbor, Maine.

In 1994 she relocated to Portland, Oregon, and began writing. She is currently at work on a book of text and visual essays about Winter.
